Dielectric And Anelastic Effects In Inorganic Glasses.

The nature of the dipole relaxation losses is discussed. Consideration of the dielectric and corresponding anelastic effects indicates that two types of relaxation process involving the migration of alkali metal ion charge carriers wight be expected. The first corresponds to the maxwell relaxation process and the second would involved the diffusion of alkali metal ions through the bulk of the specimen with changes in charge concentration at or near the surfaces in the case of appropriate stress systems.
