In order to measure glass flow in a glass tank furnace, a method for measuring the flow velocities in X and Y directions was developed. In detail, a pendulum was used to transmit a force received from the flow to strain gauges fixed at upper end. To calculate accurate flow velocity from the force, influence of a deflection of the pendulum and the effect of fluid volume on the force acting onto the pendulum was considered. Though the results of preliminary experiments in silicone oil show a deviation of measured velocities from the accurate one, error factors were evaluated for the measurement and improved the method for measuring molten glass flow. A result of the measurement in molten glass shows relatively good agreement with results of surface measurement and computer simulation.
