The art of glass is an important tradition in Bohemia, the historic glassmaking region of the Czech Republic. Bohemian glass and crystal have a centuries-old global reputation perhaps matched only by Murano. The tradition dates back as far as the 11th century; by the time Caspar Lehmann in Prague introduced an array of new cutting techniques to the art in the 1600;s, Bohemia was already a force to be reckoned with, especially in the production of the new lead-oxide glass - crystal. Few countries can boast such a long, uninterrupted tradition of production.
