A Density Model For The Lithium, Sodium And Potassium Borosilicate Glass Systems

Densities of a number of lithium, sodium and potassium borosilicate glasses were measured over a wide range of R (molar ratio of alkali oxide to boron oxide) for several fixed values of K (molar ratio of silica to boron oxide). A quantitative model based on the NMR derived Dell model predicting densities of lithium, sodium and potassium borosilicate glasses was developed. This model is based on the fractions of borate and silicate structural units present in the borosilicates and on the volumes of these units found from the binary systems.
