Densification Energy During Nanoindentation Of Silica Glass

Load/unload displacement curves at room temperature (49% humidity) for silica glass have been measured in the penetration range of 0.5-1.2u.m using a Vickers nanoindentation technique. Deformation energies have been estimated for the first time. Universal hardness and elastic recovery at the penetration depth, ht of 1.0 u.m. are Hu=4.1GPa and Er=0.7.
