The Degree Of Polarisation Of The Fluorescence Of Borosilicate Glasses Containing Uranium

The transmission ability to fluoresce energy distribution of fluorescence were determined for borosilicate glasses containing uranium. By excitation with polarised light the fluorescence shown to have a frequency-dependant degree of polarisation which depended on the plane of observation relative tot eh plane of polarisation of the exciting radiation. By optical polarisation analysis it can be shown that the observed fluorescence can be attributed to pure dipole radiation from linear oscillators.
