Amorphous silica, used in conveyor rollers for bending and toughening furnaces, has many properties which make it suitable for high temperature applications. Unfortunately, several crystalline forms of silica exist with far less advantageous properties. The formation of these crystalline forms can be accelerated by common contaminants. This paper highlights the problems caused by crystalline silica and how it can be avoided.
