Binary Te02 glasses with different rare earth modifiers have been prepared in the form of [Te02-RE] where RE is 10 mol% (La203, Ce02, Pr203, Nd203, Sm203 and Yb203). The dc and ac electrical conductivity of each glass has been measured over the temperature range 80-500K. The dc conductivity is described at high temperatures by the well known Arrhenius relation. As the temperature is lowered, the multiphonon processes are frozen out and the high temperature activation energy is expected to drop continuously. During incorporation of rare earth oxides an oxidation-reduction mechanism may be taking place.
