The owner of the UK's Darby Glass has gone into administration, although the surprise move by Jarvis Porter Plc is said to have no impact on Darby, which employs around 100. A hearing at Leeds District Registry in the week commencing 10 Sept 2007 appointed Robert Hunt & Matthew Hammond from PricewaterhouseCoopers in Birmingham as joint administrators. The court hearing came more than 4 years after Jarvis Porter paid a reported £7.46M to buy out Darby Glass, which has traded in Scunthorpe, northern England since 1973. A spokeswoman for PricewaterhouseCoopers said the administration order was largely due to a pension scheme deficit. "That does not impact on the operation of Darby Glass which continues to trade as normal", she added:. "The administrators are in discussion with stakeholders to consider further options".
