Darby Glass: 62 Jobs At Risk

UK Darby Glass Limited, based in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, has gone into administration, putting 62 jobs at risk, reportedly due to being badly hit by the economic downturn. However, London-based SFP administrators are confident of selling the 37-year-old company. In the meantime, Darby, which reported turnover in excess of GBP 4 million in 2009, is continuing to trade. The decision to call in administrators has been blamed on £820,000 of debts, 50% of which is owed to the Inland Revenue. The firm, founded by husband and wife team Michael and Joan Darby in 1973, was once the leading independent glass processing company in the UK.
