A series of infrared transmitting glasses based on TeO2-ZnCl2-PbCl2 system has been prepared. The thermal properties and crystallisation behaviour of the system have been studied by DTA, XRD, EDX, IR spectroscopy and electron microscopy Tc-Tg gaps up to 84 degrees can be achieved. It is observed that the predominant crystal phases that occured on crystallised glass are TeO2, MTeO3 and TeOCl2. Growth rates are reported for the glasses and these can be observed to be strongly dependent on the chlorine content.
