A Cruciform Solution To Regenerator Plugging

France's SEPR and its subsidiary, Corhart Refractories, have been working on technical solutions for regenerator problems for some time, developing special products to protect the top of the packing and increase regenerator life. In 1997, Corhart presented a new solution to plugging problems, consisting of a combination of two products, Type 6 and Type 4. type 6 is designed for flue sizes up to 350mm and reduces plugging in the sulphate condensation zone. Type 4, a corrugated surface product, is used at the top of the packing to maintain high efficiency. This article looks at the technical benefits of this new solution and at the results of the first industrial experience.
