In this article the author speaks of the universal appeal of glass as an art medium. It is versatile, yet constantly challenging, and full of contradictions. It can be worked hot or cold. Its properties are chameleon-like, changing to suit the circumstances, including the adaptation of abrasive waterjet cutting, used commercially to cut irregular shapes. In the past few years not only are waterjet machines being bought, but are so rapid typers, three-dimensional printers, lasers, and other equipment that can help artists investigate and engage in industrial advances.
