Crates And Pallets Decision Soon To Be Made Public

In the coming weeks, the EC will announce the results of a study on the 10-year-old exemption for plastic crates and pallets from the 100ppm heavy metal limit in packaging, a DG Environment official said recently. The Commission has asked a consultant to look into the situation of crates and pallets and find out whether an extension to the exemption is still justified. The report has now gone back to DG Environment, which will launch an internal consultation in the next few days. The result of this will then be reported back to member states & published on the DG Environment website in the next few weeks.
