The CPSC Reform Act (S. 2663) was passed by the US Senate, & the bill includes provisions that mandate that any part of a children's product must contain no more than 0.03% lead by weight (300ppm) for 3 years after which a standard of 0.01% lead by weight (100ppm) would be applied unless the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) were to determine that a 100ppm standard were not technologically feasible. Several qualifications are included to identify "children's products" which, under Senate legislation, are generally viewed as products designed for or marketed to a child age 7 or younger. This would likely cover glass & ceramicware decorated with cartoons geared to children or similar items. There are also provisions through which the CPSC could determine that a component is inaccessible to children & that the rule does not, therefore, apply.
