Vitro was founded almost 90 years ago as a small glass factory in Monterrey, Mexico, with one furnace producing a single type of glass bottle. Today, Vitro is a multi-billion dollar group that produces glass containers, flat glass for the automotive and construction industries, as well as glassware, which can be found almost everywhere. For the Vitro Group, after facing a difficult last few years, 1996 was a year of strategic refocusing and divestment of non-essential assets. The policy has helped to streamline the group, allowing Vitro to focus on its core businesses, that is, flat glass and glass containers.
