Lower costs of energy, availability of raw materials, and lower labour costs have enabled most Asian countries to produce float glass at much lower cost as compared to their peers in Europe and the Americas. As a result, many float glass producers have suppressed EU and American production capacities had have made a dash towards Asia in the last two decades. In the first of a two-part focus, Asian Glass looks at the relative profitability of operating float glass plants across Asia in direct comparison with other locations.
