The Costs And Operational Implications Of Kerbside Glass Collections

WRAP have commissioned ESYS Consulting to investigate the costs and operational implications of different kerbside glass collection regimes. The need for the study was prompted by growing concern within the UK glass packaging industry that local authorities are moving towards mixed glass collection at the expense of colour separated collection. The study investigated the comparative costs of collecting glass at the kerbside in two alternative situations: Collection authorities currently not collecting lass at kerbside who are considering the best way of doing so, given that their existing recyclables collection is commingled; Collection authorities whoa re already collecting glass at the kerb in a kerbside sorted scheme but who are considering whether they should be sorting glass into one, two or three colour streams. The report can be downloaded from WRAP's website.
