Corrosion Of Glass Surfaces

Solution analyses and weight losses traditionally have been used for studying glass corrosion. These techniques provide very little, if any, information concerning the nature of the reaction layer remaining on the glass surface after corrosion. Several analytical surface techniques are now being applied routinely to the characterization of glass and glass surfaces. A clearer understanding of corrosion mechanisms and kinetics emerges when a combination of surface and solution analysis is employed.
