Corrosion Behaviour Of A Phase Separated Zrf4-Fef3-Pbf2 Based Glass

The leaching behaviour of ZrF4-FeF3-PbF2 based fluoride glass in static deionized water was investigated at 18 and 60 deg C. The corrosion process was monitored by solution analysis of individual elements leached into solution versus time. The leach rate observed for this glass was higher than that of most other fluoride glasses. The IR spectra indicated the formation of a hydrated leach layer on the glass surface. The phase separated structure of this glass is believed to influence the corrosion mechanisms.
