[Corning] Lcd Glass Demand Up In 2008

Corning Inc. reaffirmed its 2Q 2007 outlook ahead of an investor meeting on 16 May 2007 and forecast rising demand for its liquid crystal display glass used in flat-screen televisions and computers. The world's largest maker of ultra-thin LCD glass raised its estimate for glass market volume growth in 2008 to about 32% from 30%. Its volume growth estimate of 35% to 40% is unchanged for 2007, but the company said a stronger LCD-TV market will boost demand in 2008. The company also said LCD flat-screen TVs are likely to account for 47% of television sales in 2008, up from an earlier estimate of 45%. In April 2007, Corning forecast adjusted 2Q earnings of US$ 0.30 to USD 0.33 a share on sales of USD 1.4BN to USD 1.45BN. Corning commands an estimated 55% of the global market for LCD glass. It first devised a way of making unvaryingly flat glass in the 1960s but it is only in recent years that the business has become an engine for high growth. The firm currently employs 26,000 people.
