EU studies claim that 15% of worldwide energy demand is used to produce compressed air. Reducing the energy requirements of compressed air systems is therefore both of economic and environmental importance, particularly for applications where the demand for compressed air is high and constant as it is in the glass industry. In this article the possibility of energy savings and air quality improvements through the installation of pre-cooling systems is outlined.
