Convection Laws For Glass Furnaces Revisited

This paper introduces a simple geometry to study natural convection in a two-dimensional box, closer to that of glass furnaces than the usual differentially heated box. It is shown that in both cases the temperature and velocity fields scale with the Rayleigh number, based on the height of the box. The model suggested has qualitative features similar to those observed in direct numerical simulations of glass furnaces.
