Emhart Glass has developed 10in and 11in Metering Spout Systems intended to offer better gob forming control. The systems were designed using computer glass flow modelling which provided the data to equalise glass flow for all spout orifices. The systems also use Emhart's patented spout throat, orifice ring, metering tube and heat deflector. When combined, the components consitute a meter valve which regulates glass flow out of the spout orifices. With the metering valve built into the spout, the glass flow's sensativity to tube height adjustments and forehearth glass level changes can be reduced. The metering spouts can reduce gob weight variations, help to ensure that gob temperature is more uniform, improve gob loading, reduce refractory ware and eliminate orifice ring cooling.
