Control Of Stresses During Production Of Sheet Glass

A study has been made of the processes by which stresses are initiated and redistributed in a glass ribbon during the forming of flat glass and in sheets of glass. This was based on a mathematical simulation of the relevant processes derived from numerical solution of boundary values of the mechanics of a deformable solid and heat conduction using finite element analysis. Measurements on laboratory specimens and under production conditions were also made. The results have been used for microprocessor control of new-generation flat glass lehrs developed by the Steklomash organisation.
