Control Improved On Mirror Line

The business development team at Eastern Electricity has come up with an improved control solution which could lead to annual savings of around £42,000 for Pilkington's mirror manufacturing site in Harlow. A series of infra-red ovens are used to cure the protective coat of paint on the reverse of the mirrors. However, a significant level of wastage was caused by the ovens overheating, causing the sheets to stick together when stacked to await cutting. The solution was a system of optical pyrometers mounted above the conveyor close to the entry points and exits of the ovens.
