The amber chromophore is present in a large range of industrial glass colourations (amber, feuille-morte, olive/antique green). In this article the author presents the key parameters governing the formation and stability of the amber chromophore in glasses. Special attention is given to the role of chromium on the colour stability of iron- and sulphur-containing glasses in reduced and highly reduced conditions.
