Contribution To The Characterisation Of Dust Emissions Of Glass Melting Furnaces

As a contribution to the actual discussion about fine dust, fine quartz & cristobalite particulate emission & immission in the EU, in this article the authors point out the role the flat glass industry plays in this context. Electrostatic precipitators (EPs) are used to clean the flue gas of every flat glass production site in Germany. In order to show the real emission in this case, dust was collected in the clean gas of a number of float glass furnaces. The quartz glass fibre filters with dust particulates impacted on their surface were analysed in order to show the composition of the dust escaping to the EP.
