Continuation Of Imperial Units

The EC announced 29 November 2007 that the European Parliament had given a first reading to a proposal on units of measurement that would mean that Britain and Ireland could continue to use pints for bottled milk and draft beer and cider. The proposal would also make it possible to continue to use indefinitely supplementary or dual indications of both metric and imperial sizes. The Commission is now expecting an early endorsement by the Council of Ministers in order to ensure that the proposal is adopted quickly.
