Consumers Glass To Discontinue Green Glass Recycling

Ontario municipalities & recyclers may be hit hard by news that Consumers Glass, Ontario's major glass recycling market, will no longer accept green glass. The company has advised its processor, NextCycle Industries of Guelph, to discontinue purchasing curbside green recycled glass for its use from Ontario Municipal Blue Box programs, from 01/03/01. The decision was made because Consumers is shifting its green glass production out of Ontario due to what the company says are "changes in customer demand for green bottles." In fact, the closing of the Molson's beer plant in Barrie has a lot to do with the decision. Much of that facility's production went into non-refillable green bottles destined for the US market.
