Consol Pushes Glass

South African packaging manufacturer Consol, is to put more emphasis on glass packaging, rather than plastic or metal. "Importers and higher input costs have adversely affected our plastics business," the company said. "We will increase our market share by converting some of the packaging to glass away from cans and plastic in line with customer preference." Positive trading conditions continue to allow South Africa's economy to grow strongly, but more glass containers are being imported from the Middle East to take advantage of the strengthening of the Rand currency. Meanwhile, Consol has opened a new retail outlet to supply small orders of glass containers for users such as farmers and small vintners.
