The South African glass packaging manufacturer Consol Glass of Johannesburg, has developed a wine bottle with engraving in braille, in conjunction with Worcester Winelands Association. Wines of South Africa and the Institute of the Blind. According to various press reports from the area, this is the first bottle of its kind worldwide. By contrast, some wine producers already use labels with braille. The braille inscription "100% Worcester, South Africa" is to be found on the lower part of the bottle. At first, 400,000 bottles will go into circulation. In the financial year 2004/5, Consol Glass made a turnover of 2.2BN Rand and operating profits of 509M Rand.
