Conservatory Roof Survives Inferno

Newspaper photos of the aftermath of the inferno that gutted the country mansion of a Conservative MP reveal that the conservatory roof survived the fire almost unscathed. A team of 70 fire fighters fought the blaze for four hours during which time temperatures at the heart of the fire reached in excess of 1000 deg C. Chief fire officer Malcolm Eastwood was quoted as saying: "About 95% of the building has been involved in fire. It was white flame, totally engulfing the house." The 10 bedroomed Edwardian building was so badly damaged that it had to be partially demonished to make it safe enough to search for the bodies of Conservative MP Michael Colvin and his wife Nichole.
