An interim draft of Building Regulations Part L can now be downloaded from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minsinter's website: www.odpm.gov.uk - the final document is expected to be published early 2006, ready for implementation in April/06. The main points to note for the window industry are: a) Replacement windows: "U" values of 2.0 or less for all frame materials, or WER band "E" or higher; b) New build windows: "U" values of 1.8 or less. WER "D" or higher. c) Conservatories with an area no greater than 30 square metres remain exempt from Building Control and d) Architects have greater flexibility over the entire building envelope.
