Condensate Risks Pertaining To Inner Surfaces Of Insulating Glass Units

This article studies temperatures of the interior surfaces of the innermost glass panes in insulating glass units (IGUs) and the related condensate risks. If humidity is allowed to condense onto the interior surface of the innermost glass pane in an IGU, the service life of the profile and the IGU will be markedly shortened. Furthermore, condensed water may be able to penetrate deeper into the structures and thus cause mould and humidity damage. This article assesses the various solutions available to prevent this condensate risk. One of the proposed solutions is using warm insulating glass to prevent condensation. In this article, the term warm insulating glass refers to electrically heated insulating glazing, meaning an IGU where the innermost pane is electrically heated and the generated heat flow is directed inwards. This article will also briefly study the corresponding energy effi ciency of the solution of heated insulating glazing.
