Since the introduction of 3D numerical system modeling in the mid-1980s, models developed for combustion space, batch melting, melt circulation, air-bubblers, electric boosting, refractory corrosion and regenerators are being used to create a coherent picture of the complex phenomena. This paper reviews the literature on the glass melting process, emphasizing numerical and experimental studies published in the 90s.
