The last decade has seen research into numerical modelling of glass production processes flourish as a result of recent advances in computer power. This paper provides an overview to the background of numerical techniques used in the IFORM code for modelling the forming process on an IS machine. An example is provided to show how these models may be used to undertake sensitivity studies to investigate the effect on final wall thickness to changes in gob temperature and plunger uptimes.
