Competition Commission Formally Clears Ardagh Acquisition Of Rexam Glass Unit

The Competition Commission said it has formally cleared Ardagh International Holdings' completed acquisition of Redfearn Glass -- previously Rexam Glass Barnsley - from Rexam PLC. Rexam sold its glass business to Ardagh in May for £50M. Diana Guy, chairman of the inquiry group, said: 'Although we were concerned by the loss of an independent competitor, a number of factors meant that we could not conclude that Ardagh would have the incentive and ability to use this position it acquired through the merger to the detriment of customers. 'We have therefore concluded that the merger cannot be expected to lead to a substantial lessening of competition.'
