Comparison Of The Atmosphere And Of The Tin Sides Of Float Glass Using Sims

SIMS depth profiles show that the tin concentration of both atmosphere and tin sides presents a hump at 4 to 8um from the surface depending on the origin and thickness of the glass. It has been shown, from experiments on the precipitation of colloidal silver in the presence of reduced species, that this hump is associated with a change in the concentration of reduced species on both sides of float glass: this concentration is much higher in the first micrometers than deeper, and higher than can be calculated assuming that tin is present as Sn2+ in this part of the glass.
