A Comparative Model Study Of Antimony And Cerium Oxide Refining

A computer model has been developed to calculate the composition, growth rate and ascention rate of a critical bubble in an industrial melting tank as a function of time. The results indicate that a bubble free melt can be obtained using 0.5wt% antimony as the refining agent, but if the same amount of cerium is used, some bubbles may be left in the glass product.
