Combustion Systems - Improving Efficiency In Gas-Fired Furnaces

Natural gas combustion systems for glass melting furnaces are increasingly common, due to their lower cost and environmental advantages, yet they are less efficient than heavy fuel oil combustions systems, which produce a more luminous flame. To combat this problem, Demaglass Technology has installed retractable through port burners in two furnaces: one at PT Litechindo Utama in Surabaya, Indonesia and the other at Demaglass Pharmaceutical & Lighting factory in Haworth, UK. Besides maximizing flame luminosity, the two furnaces have proved advantageous in other respects too. This paper reviews the theory behind the design of the burners and the two projects in which Demaglass has used them in its combustion systems.
