Colour And Solarization Of Glasses Containing Combinations Of Colouring Oxides

The colours produced by the various oxides in glasses have been studied from ancient times and are well known. common colouring agents are titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper and the rare earths. In glass these colouring agents are present in the form of ions, and the transmission of colour by the glass is directly related to the ionic condition and environment of the colouring agent present. The first part of this paper consists of a study of combination colours, and the second part of the study deals with the "fading" or solarization of glasses.
