Colloidal Silica Offers Alternative Patch Material

In an effort to extend the life of the total refractory structure, a number of repair techniques have been developed. Whilst zircon patch has long been seen as the market leader in melter and regenerator repairs, a new concept in repair technique is rapidly finding acceptance in the glass industry. One solution is a colloidal silica-based, cement-free bonding system developed by Magneco Metrel. This binder is applicable not only to monolithic fused silica materials, but to a variety of low and high alumina materials, creating a range of products suitable for hot repair of regenerators, recuperators and furnace superstructure.
