Coldseal Finally Closes

Coldseal, manufacturer/installer of replacement windows & doors has ceased trading. The latest in a series of liquidations over the years appears to have resulted in the end of the Coldseal name, established since 1979, & the loss of 150 jobs at the Alfreton factory alone. There have been three liquidations involving the coldseal name & assets this year: Coldseal Ltd; Coldseal Group Ltd; & latest, the holding company, Carthium Group, which ceased trading Nov 3rd. In each case the assets changed hands before the liquidation for a knock-down price, leaving some major creditors unpaid, including the Inland Revenue & Customs & Excise. While this is not illegal, liquidators are obliged to report their findings to the Secretary of State by 6 months, & with such a quick succession of sales/liquidations it might be judged that Coldseal has effectively been trading while insolvent.
