The Telegraph, 7 June, reports: Glass recycling has traditionally focused on containers, but when Saint-Gobain pioneered the re-use of off-cuts from double-glazing companies and other users of high-quality flat glass, it was challenging the industry's conventional wisdom. The company's development of a super-strong "Big Bag" to transport a tonne of broken glass on its delivery trucks' empty return journeys was a winner for all concerned. One Irish customer receives 60 Euros/ tonne (£41) for broken glass that it was paying 40 Euros/tonne to dispose of. For Saint-Gobain, recycling means a 20% reduction in raw materials such as sand and limestone and an 8% reduction in energy use
