Ciech Buys German Soda Producer

Polish listed chemical group Ciech bought German sodium manufacturer Sodawerk Holding Stassfurt in its entirety for EUR 75M from unnamed private equity funds & individual investors, Ciech announced 22 November 2007. SWS produces bicarbonate of soda & light & heavy calcined soda. It has an annual soda production capacity of 450,000/tpa. The transaction will be finalised with Ciech's own funds & with the proceeds of a bond issue. Ciech produces soda ash, vacuum salt, phosphorous fertilisers, sodium silicate, ethylbenzene, dyestuffs & other chrome & phosphorus compounds. It is Europe's third-largest soda producer after Belgium-based Solvay & UK-based Brunner Mond.
