Cie And Astm Standards On Definition And Characterization Of Translucent Material Properties

The methodologies for characterising photometric and spectro-radiometric properties of modern translucent materials are not well defined in current European standards. New terminology and new characterising parameters should be introduced to consider in detail the interesting properties of new translucent glazing units, widely applied in architecture for esthetical reasons but also for increasing visual comfort, reducing glare and optimising daylight ambient conditions. The need for new standards to adequately characterise optical properties of diffusing glazing units is highlighted in this paper.
