[China] A Year Of Concern - Fall And Rise In Flat Glass Markets

This article takes an in-depth look at the Chinese float glass industry. The Chinese economy has been growing fast over the last 30 years. The technology, techniques as well as the technical level of facilities in the Chinese glass industry has achieved significant breakthroughs, including the invention of a patented float glass production technique, to name but one. Up to the end of 2008, there were 191 float production lines in China with output of flat glass being around 574M cases. Between 2001-2008 a total of 126 new float glass facilities were built in China. Problems in the foreseeable future include: Lack of forward planning; big fluctuations of periodicity; low industrial concentration; high consumption of resources and energy; and inappropriate mechanism.
