Following the Velvet Revolution in 1989, Czech state-owned businesses were progressively privatised. The Bohemia Group was broken down into its constituent parts, one of which is Sklo Bohemia AS. Originally specialising in hand-made crystal, the company had found it economically necessary to switch to machine-made ware. Much of the decoration is still done by hand, but computerised cutting machines are now doing some of this work.
