Mixing two slightly different glasses in order to make an homogeneous melt is an everyday challenge met by all the container glass producers and in a smaller extent by every glassmaker using cullet. The homogenising of molten glass is carried out in the furnace by two physico-chemical processes, diffusion and convection. The aim of this paper is to clarify the possible influence of diffusion and consequently the relative importance of both mechanisms in the homogenising process.
